چکیده

We propose a method to retrieve the effective constitutive parameters of a slab of bianisotropic metamaterial from reflection and transmission coefficients (or scattering parameters). In our retrieval method, only the scattering parameters in one propagation direction are used. Analytical inversion equations are derived in order to retrieve the effective parameters of the permittivity, permeability, and magnetoelectric coupling coefficient of the bianisotropic metamaterial. To demonstrate the validity of the method, we used it to retrieve the parameters of four different metamaterials, among which two were normal media without bianisotropy and the other two were bianisotropic media. In using our retrieval method, including bianisotropy, the intrinsic differences between a normal medium and a bianisotropic medium were illustrated clearly. Our simulation and retrieval results also corroborate the conclusions of the previously published literature.

General Formulation to Investigate Scattering from Multilayer Lossy Inhomogeneous Metamaterial Planar Structures

This paper presents a general formulation to investigate the scattering from Multilayer Lossy Inhomogeneous Metamaterial Planar Structure (MLIMPS) with arbitrary number of layers and polarization. First, the dominating differential equation of transverse components of electromagnetic fields in each layers derived. Considering the general form of solution of the differential equations and the bo...

Bianisotropic response of microfabricated metamaterials in the terahertz region

Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy was used to investigate the bianisotropic response of microfabricated split-ring resonators (SRRs) and the in-plane SRR–wire metamaterials. We observed a strong polarization dependence of the transmission with a polarized incident terahertz electromagnetic wave. Two transmission minima, one from the bianisotropic contribution and the other from the anisotropic...

Impact of Initial Stress on Reflection and Transmission of SV-Wave between Two Orthotropic Thermoelastic Half-Spaces

Reflection and transmission of plane waves between two initially stressed thermoelastic half-spaces with orthotropic type of anisotropy is studied. Incidence of a SV-type wave from the lower half-space is considered and the amplitude ratios of the reflected and transmitted SV-wave, P-wave and thermal wave are obtained by using appropriate boundary conditions. Numerical computation for a particu...

Method for retrieving effective properties of locally resonant acoustic metamaterials

Acoustic metamaterials can be described by effective material properties such as mass density and modulus. We have developed a method to extract these effective properties from reflection and transmission coefficients, which can be measured experimentally. The dependency of effective properties on the positions of the boundaries of the acoustic metamaterial is discussed, and a proper procedure ...

A Unit Cell Approach to Model and Char- Acterize the Metal Powders and Metal- Dielectric Composites at Microwave Fre- Quencies

A unit cell based numerical approach to model the metal powders and metal-dielectric composites at microwave frequencies is proposed. The unit cell based numerical modeling helps to compute the equivalent reflection and transmission coefficients of these materials, which are commonly used measured parameters at RF and microwave frequencies. The computation of the reflection and transmission coe...
